Privacy Policy

This policy describes how Frode (“we,” “our,” “the app”), operated by Happy Path Development LLC, handles information for people who use it.

Frode is a household meal-planning application. It does not run advertising, does not use analytics or tracking tools (including Google Analytics or similar), and does not build advertising profiles of any kind.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. Your name and email address, collected when you create an account.

Household information. Your household's name, the number of people in it, and your macro/nutrition targets (calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber).

Content you provide.

  • Recipes you save, with their tags. For a recipe imported from a link, we store the link, its ingredients, nutrition and serving information, and a reworded version of its instructions (not the original page's text). For a recipe you enter manually, we store what you enter. For a PDF you upload, we store the recipe extracted from it; the PDF file itself is deleted as soon as it has been read and is never kept.
  • Your meal plans, including which recipes are planned for which days.

Billing information. If your household subscribes, payment is handled by Stripe on Stripe's own checkout and billing pages. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never reach us. We store only Stripe's customer and subscription references and your subscription's status (whether it is active or cancelled, and when a cancelled subscription ends).

Security and technical information. When you sign in, the IP address and browser type of that session are stored with it, to keep your account secure. Our hosting providers keep standard request logs (such as IP addresses) for security and troubleshooting. We also keep a count of each household's AI requests for up to one day, to enforce usage limits.

No tracking. We do not use tracking pixels, analytics scripts, or third-party advertising tools anywhere in the app. We do not build a profile of your behavior for any purpose beyond making the app itself work. For example, we don't track how long you use the app, what you click on, or your activity for marketing purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information above only to operate the app: building your recipe library, planning meals, tracking macros against your targets, generating shopping lists, handling your subscription, and keeping accounts secure.

AI processing. When you import a recipe from a link or a PDF, its text is sent to a third-party AI provider (Anthropic, maker of Claude) to extract the recipe (servings, macros, and ingredients) and reword its instructions. When a recipe is made public, or a public recipe's title, ingredients, or instructions are edited, that recipe is also sent to Anthropic to check that it looks like a genuine recipe before it's shared. These are the only reasons recipe content is sent to Anthropic.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising or marketing purposes, under any circumstances.

Service providers. Running the app requires a small number of infrastructure providers, each of whom receives only what's necessary to perform their function:

  • Neon: our database, authentication, and file storage provider. Your account information and household data are stored here, and uploaded PDFs are held here briefly until they're read.
  • Vercel: hosts the application itself.
  • Anthropic: processes recipe content solely for the recipe extraction and checks described in Section 2.
  • Stripe: our payment processor. Stripe handles checkout, card payments, invoices, refunds, and the billing portal, and receives your name, email address, and payment details for that purpose. Stripe's handling of that information is described in the Stripe Privacy Policy.
  • Google: only if you choose “Sign in with Google.” Google confirms your identity and shares your name and email address with us so we can sign you in.

Neon, Vercel, and Anthropic may use your data only to provide their service to us. Stripe and Google also act under their own privacy policies for the parts they handle directly. For example, Stripe uses payment information to prevent fraud and meet its legal obligations as a payment processor.

Your household. Everyone in your household can see each member's name and email address, and all of the household's recipes, meal plans, targets, and shopping lists.

Public recipes (only if you choose to share one). If you make a recipe public, its title, ingredients, instructions, nutrition information, tags, and source link can be seen by every Frode user, who can copy it into their own library. Your name and household are not shown with it.

Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required to do so by law, or in a good-faith belief that disclosure is necessary to comply with a legal obligation.

4. Cookies and Local Storage

Frode stores only a few small items on your device, all set by Frode itself, and only to make the app work or to remember a setting you chose. We don't use advertising, analytics, or third-party tracking cookies, so we don't show a cookie consent banner. If that ever changes, we'll ask for your consent before setting anything that isn't needed to run the app.

  • __Secure-neon-auth.session_token (cookie): keeps you signed in. Lasts 7 days from sign-in and may be renewed while you keep using Frode; removed when you sign out.
  • __Secure-neon-auth.local.session_data (cookie): a signed, short-lived copy of your sign-in details so pages load without re-checking your session every time. Lasts up to 5 minutes and is refreshed automatically.
  • __Secure-neon-auth.session_challenge (cookie): set only briefly while you sign in with Google, to securely complete that sign-in.
  • frode_checkout_intent (cookie): set only if you click “Start your subscription” before you're signed in. It holds just the plan you picked (monthly or annual) so you land back on checkout after signing up. Lasts up to 2 hours and is deleted as soon as it's used.
  • frode_pending_invite (cookie): set only if you sign up through an invite to join someone's household. It holds just that invite code, so you're added to the household once you've confirmed your email and signed in. Lasts up to 1 day and is deleted as soon as it's used.
  • frode-theme (browser local storage): remembers whether you chose the light, dark, or system theme. Kept until you change it or clear your browser data.
  • frode-notice-seen (browser local storage): remembers that you dismissed the short privacy notice so it isn't shown again. Kept until you clear your browser data.

When you pay or manage billing, you're taken to pages hosted by Stripe, which set their own cookies under the Stripe Cookie Policy. The same applies to Google's pages if you sign in with Google. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but you'll need the sign-in cookies to use Frode.

5. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete a recipe, it's deleted. Uploaded PDFs are never kept (see Section 1).

When you delete your account:

  • Your sign-in details and sessions are deleted.
  • If you're a member of a household (not its owner), your membership is removed. The household's shared recipes and meal plans stay with the household.
  • If you're the household owner, the household and all of its recipes, meal plans, and targets are deleted. Any other members keep their accounts and are each moved to a new, empty household of their own. Any subscription is cancelled and the unused time is refunded to your card.
  • Copies of your public recipes that other households have added to their own libraries belong to those households and aren't deleted.
  • Stripe keeps billing records, such as invoices, as payment regulations require.

6. Data Security

Household data is isolated at the database level: one household's recipes, meal plans, and macro data are not accessible to another household's members, except for recipes you choose to make public (see Section 3). Uploaded PDFs are held in private storage, not publicly accessible, only until they're read. Connections to the app are encrypted.

7. Your Choices

You can view and correct your recipes, meal plans, and household details in the app, and delete your account from your profile page. To request a copy of your data, or for anything the app doesn't let you do yourself, contact us at hello@myfrode.com. Deleting your account removes your data as described in Section 5.

8. Children's Privacy

Frode is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

9. Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If changes are significant, we'll make reasonable efforts to notify active users directly.
